SEPTIC INSPECTION

Have Your Septic Tank Inspected

A septic inspection provides a written report of the condition of a septic tank along with a map of the location of the tank lids. Inspections are often requested and sometimes required when a buyer is considering the purchase of a new home. Other times a homeowner will have an inspection done to find out the status of their system if they are having problems or just want to know what their system’s condition is.  The report will tell you whether the system is working properly, or if it needs repair or replacement.

How Often Should I Have My Tank Inspected?

We recommend a septic tank get pumped every 3-5 years depending on how many people live in the home and the size of the tank.  Many people stretch that out.  If there’s nothing to indicate the location in the yard, an owner will have to rely on memory unless they have the site marked or a map.

Is Your Septic Tank Working Properly?

Once the septic tank is located, the inspector will remove the cover to the septic tank and check the water level. The water level can or show whether the water is draining properly. The inspector will then run water in the house to make sure it is properly flowing from the house to the septic tank, and to make sure the water level within the tank does not rise when they introduce more water. The inspector will flush all the toilets and run all the water in the house to make sure the water pressure is up to par and everything is draining properly. Finally, the inspector will go out to the drain field to make sure there is no standing water, which can indicate a cesspool.

Backflow Levels Can Indicated Problems With Your Drain Field

After making sure everything is draining properly, the septic tank will get pumped and the inspector will check for any backflow from the drain field. The backflow level tells the inspector if there is a problem with your drain field. The flow level is then checked again to make sure every aspect of the septic system is in working order and there are no blockages.
